We all have something we are passionate about, right? Now, imagine a robot telling you that you don't need to follow your passion because it can. Feeling sad? Well, that's what we are feeling and would like to share with you.

It makes us curious when we come across debates on social media on whether or not AI will be able to replace teachers in the education sector. There is no fear because we believe that teachers can't be replaced by AI. What is saddening is that the world compares a robot to a human being today.

Being in the educational sector for all these years, we have had the privilege of helping thousands of students achieve their dream. Watching our students achieve their goals is our biggest dream and will always be. However, many people have started to believe that technology will soon replace the human teachers and schools of the present. Tech savvies have developed this belief system even before the adoption of such efficient robot teachers.

What does the world believe?

As per the survey by Tidio of over a thousand people, 2 out of every 3 believe that AI would replace human teachers. Here are a few more facts to help you understand better-

However, the more important fact to note is that 39% of participants feel AI won’t be able to recognize individual talents and inspire them not to fit in the box. On the other hand, people who believe that access to education has never been easier - also have a contradicting thought. They believe that this easy access to education has lowered the quality of education in schools and coaching centres.

A robot may have answers to all your educational questions but how will it understand your pain points? A human teacher instantly understands if their students are good to go or if they need more teaching. Such supervision and observation are impossible with robot teachers (and all the tech savvies would have to agree here).

The complexity of human emotion

No matter how far technology advancements get, emotions and feelings can never be simulated in a machine. All the factors of differentiation can be vanished, except for human emotions.

Every organ in our body and every aspect of our surroundings simulate a variety of emotions in us. These emotions are so complex in nature that AI may never be able to fully replicate them. This is also because we feel a variety of emotions on a daily basis. These emotions cannot be limited to certain words like sadness, happiness, anger, and fear.

In a study by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), it was revealed that automation had the capacity to take up some jobs at a high rate, while other jobs at lower rates. Refer to the image below to understand:

What do you notice? Jobs that have a specific work pattern are at a higher risk of being taken over by technology. Jobs like medical practice and teaching have rates as low as 20%- because tasks are not repetitive and specific here. these jobs demand human connection to understand problems and the same connection to resolve them- which would not be possible for a robot.

How can AI enhance teaching?

Technology has made advances that are helping every industry, and education is surely one of them.

The education sector does not comprise teaching alone. Management, feedback, and assistance are integral to this vast sector. While teaching is something that requires an immense human connection with students, other aspects do not require the same.

  • Creating courses has never been easier- all because of technology. Loads of money and time are being saved by playing the AI card when it comes to creating detailed courses for students.
  • Automating certain tasks with the help of AI has made the management of educational institutions quick.
  • Just like any other industry, AI's biggest contribution to the education sector has been the personalization of preferences. The one-shoe-fits-all approach can't be used in education. Each child requires a different approach, and that's what AI enables.
  • Access to education is yet another aspect that AI has improved across the globe. Without technology, it might not have been possible for every child to access education.

Research and statistics show that AI would soon create robots with the capability of teaching students. Many places in the world like New Zealand already have digital teachers in their schools and universities. Sooner or later, it would be common to see robot professors in India as well. But what we believe is that these robots would still not be equivalent to a human teacher.

Final thoughts

We firmly believe that AI is not here to take away jobs but to make professionals more efficient and resourceful. At PW (PhysicsWallah), we have witnessed reduced work hours, increased efficiency, and the creation of exciting new job roles through embracing AI. It's important to recognize that human intelligence remains indispensable, ensuring the authenticity and effectiveness of AI-driven solutions.

We have developed a fantastic AI-powered app for our teachers and subject matter experts. This empowering tool enables them to deliver better answers, solve doubts faster, and enhance teaching efficiency. In a recent experiment, AI-assisted doubt-solving achieved an astounding 97% student satisfaction rate when SMEs used AI to solve a random set of 1700 doubts. However, it's worth noting that the intervention of our teachers is crucial to ensure authenticity and maximize learning outcomes. This powerful blend of human intelligence and AI is truly a game-changer for our educators and students alike.

In order to equip students and professionals for the ever-evolving landscape, we will soon be launching courses focused on AI and other prominent engineering fields. By providing them with the skills of today, we are ensuring their success in the dynamic world of tomorrow.

Simply put, 'AI can contribute to an improved education system, but cannot become one'. What are your views on this?
